First, William introduced to the teachers the educational background of Indonesia. According to the International Student Ability Assessment Program, there are a total of 79 countries, and 15-year-old students participated in the assessment. Indonesia's education is the seventh from the bottom, and the teachers' quality is relatively not good, low salaries of teachers and malnutrition of too many poor students are all reasons for the poor quality of education in Indonesia. Indonesian students suggest that teachers can use more metaphors to make it easier for Indonesian students to understand the content of the class. Another way is to give rewards or opportunities for extra points, which can motivate them to learn.
Furthermore, a question that teachers often ask foreign students is, "Should I use English or Chinese to communicate with Indonesian?" For Indonesian students, English is more familiar than Chinese. William also shared his culture shock, The first is that Indonesians like to meddle in others affairs and are always curious about others affairs, but Taiwanese are not. The second is that Indonesians are very economical. Finally, many Indonesians are polite and kind. If you treat Indonesians well, they will pay you back by doubling and tripling.
In the last Q&A time, some teachers asked how to help Indonesian students in groups and whether use English to help Indonesian students understand the content of the class is easier? The students mentioned that they hoped that the teacher could divide two Indonesian students into groups with other Taiwanese students. A group have both Indonesian and Taiwanese, so that students will help and learn from each other. Although each Indonesian's English and Chinese qualities are not the same, it is still better to use English to quickly understand the content of the class. I hope that through sharing by Mr. Chen Yanzhi and William today, teachers will have a better understanding of Indonesian culture and how to teach Indonesian students.
