111-2 How to teach international students? "Watching Videos and Talking about Culture - Thailand Session"
On March 17, 2023, teacher Mr. Wang Qianhui from the Department of Cooperative Economic and Social Business Management and Jing Yu from PMP made it easy for teachers to understand Thai culture through video and chat discussions.
Jing yu shared some parts that she felt cultural differences after coming to Taiwan. She said that in Taiwan, we usually use "waving" to greet others, but in Thailand, it is actually impolite. In Taiwan, people usually have less physical contact with parents, but in Thailand, they are used to hugging parents and parents kissing their children, which is very warm.
Teacher Wang said, "As you leave your hometown, say goodbye to your parents and hometown friends and come to Taiwan, not only need to become independence, but also work hard to learn different languages. We hope that these years in FengChia will be one of the most beautiful years in your life." Their teacher-student relationship is touching.
During Q&A, a teacher asked her that Thai people usually have very long names. How to call Thai people usually? Jing Yu said that if you want to call others, you can use Ms/ Mr. C. followed by a name. What's more special is that Thai people usually have a nickname, which their parents will take upon birth. For example, Jing yu's nickname is Penguin, and familiar people usually call her nickname. A teacher from the marketing department asked Jing yu how she worked with Taiwanese students as a team. Jing yu felt that Taiwanese people were very nice to her, sometimes she felt that Taiwanese people spoke too fast to understand, however, Taiwanese students were very willing to speak it slowly again. Li Yumin, also from Thailand, shared that when he came to Taiwan, he felt that it is difficult to get along with Taiwanese people, but he later found that Taiwanese people were actually very kind. Through this sharing, we also have a better understanding of Thai culture.
